Bringing “Excitation” to the University of Tokyo
In April 2015, a true researcher who has devoted half of his life to the study of physical phenomena assumed the post of the 30th president of the University of Tokyo with dogged determination. His bright light has already started illuminating areas both inside and outside the University. What sort of chemical reactions will occur when this light cast by the new president interacts with the full-scale research university that is approaching its 139th anniversary? Let us imagine the reactions that will unfold during his six-year tenure.
* Excitation: A shift in the energy state of particles (atoms, molecules, etc.), from the ground state to an excited state, which is caused by interaction with other particles. It is a technical term used in the field of quantum mechanics.
