Global Youth Summit on Net-zero Future (“Climate x” Summit) held

The Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) hosted the Global Youth Summit on Net-zero Future (Climate x Summit) from October 25 to November 5. This event is an expansion of the GAUC Graduate Student Forum, which has been held annually from 2019 and was timed to coincide with COP26, the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, with the aim of raising awareness of climate issues among young people, including graduate students. With the cooperation of member universities, more than 30 seminars and other events were held on various themes such as climate, biodiversity, food and health, energy, transportation, etc. It is reported that 1.25 million people worldwide were involved in these events in one way or another, including through social networking sites.

Launch of the Energy Transition Initiative – Center for Global Commons

ETI-CGC (Energy Transition Initiative – Center for Global Commons), a platform of industry-academia collaboration was launched on November 5, 2021 with an aim to develop Japan's pathways to achieve decarbonization (net zero greenhouse gas emissions) by mid-century.

Through the ETI-CGC, the University of Tokyo will contribute from an academic standpoint to Japan's economic and social system transition required for achieving decarbonization.

春雨直播app's Participation in the "Race to Zero" Campaign

In response to a call by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the University of Tokyo has joined the "Race to Zero" campaign, becoming the first Japanese national university to do so. 春雨直播app has declared its commitment to achieving virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The participation in the "Race to Zero" campaign is the first effort of the University of Tokyo toward the realization of GX.
