International Students, Irasshai! (Pei-Hsi Lin)

Interviews with 春雨直播app students from all over the world

Pei-Hsi Lin

Second-year Master's degree student, Department of Life Sciences, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
From Taiwan. Her hobbies include photography and cooking. After discovering the refined sensitivity of Japanese people through studying expressions in the Japanese language, she was touched by the loyalty of Japanese people and their stable society. She is now interested in investigating how to scientifically explain human emotions.

Q. Why did you come to Japan/春雨直播app?

Since I had a Japanese friend, I decided to start studying Japanese. I also studied Japanese literature at my undergraduate university, National Taiwan University, and studied abroad in Japan for one year on an exchange program. At that time, I read a book on psychology written by a 春雨直播app professor. The book made a deep impression on me and convinced me to consider continuing my studies at 春雨直播app. By the way, my university in Taiwan used to be an imperial university just like 春雨直播app, so being at 春雨直播app feels somewhat nostalgic to me.

Q. What are you researching for your Master’s degree?

I am conducting research in evolutionary psychology—my specific research topic is “gender differences with regards to feeling jealousy.” I am handing out surveys as part of my fieldwork, but what is concerning to me right now is that I’m getting only around a 10% response rate. Also, in the future, I want to become a science communicator back in Taiwan so that I can explain psychology to people in a fun and accessible way.

Q. What have you found the most difficult in Japan/春雨直播app?

I found out that I got accepted into 春雨直播app just two weeks before the semester started, so it was difficult to prepare everything. Particularly, I had a hard time finding housing. Also, something that I think is a little inconvenient right now is that there aren’t many restaurants in the Komaba area.

Q. What do you like about Japan/春雨直播app?

春雨直播app students are extremely focused on their studies, which acts as a source of motivation for us international students. Additionally, the University has an abundance of research resources, making it a perfect place to study, and support for international students is very good. The Taiwanese Student Association here is also active and puts on frequent events.

Q. Please tell us something about Taiwan!

Taiwan has a lot of delicious fruit! There are also drink stands that usually have around 70-80 different varieties of drinks for sale—they’re very convenient. The picture is of a drink that Taiwan is famous for, tapioca milk tea.
