In order to contribute to building a society resilient to water-related disasters such as floods and draughts in this changing climate, we develop a research hub for a novel science to deepen the understanding of clouds and precipitation processes through utilizing the big data obtained from satellite earth observations and climate model simulations. Even with the state-of-the-art climate models, it is difficult to predict future changes of precipitation characteristics accurately, which is essential for policy makers. Our research focuses on connecting the earth observations and climate model simulations to the physical understanding of processes by taking advantage of new information and communication techniques. This research is also aimed at improving the climate model capability to represent precipitation characteristics accordingly.
