The OMNI (Ocean Monitoring Network Initiative) Marine Litter Project is a design project that engages local governments to conceive, implement, and solve international initiatives to address the marine litter problem. The project has already been implemented in three municipalities: Zushi City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture; and Nagasaki Prefecture. The project involves local government, citizens, and businesses in workshops and product designs to promote behavioral change from a variety of perspectives. Specific examples of implementation include the designs for tools to pick up litter guidelines for picking up marine litter, microplastic collection tools, counting application, and collection methods.
