Abstract

This workshop aims to introduce faculty and graduate students to the field of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), which refers to the systematic inquiry into teaching and learning in higher education typically for the purpose of improving student learning. In recent years, SoTL has been increasingly promoted and institutionalized in universities around the world to foster a more scholarly approach to teaching, and thus for the enhancement of the quality of higher education, as a form of faculty professional development, as well as for improving the recognition and appreciation of education. In this workshop, we ask the question, “what is worth researching?”, and seek to cultivate our own interests and curiosity about educational issues within the higher education classroom.

By the end of this workshop, you can expect to be able to:

  1. Explain some of the general characteristics, features, and process of SoTL
  2. Propose ideas for SoTL research projects
  3. Exchange (provide and receive) peer feedback on SoTL research proposals.
