Abstract
Peer support is essential to advancing teaching excellence in higher education. Peer support, rooted in collaboration, mutual respect, and shared accountability, enables faculty and graduate students to exchange ideas, provide constructive feedback, and co-develop innovative teaching practices. However, building a culture of peer support can be challenging, without conditions for structured peer engagement. Drawing on examples from academic literature and experiences from other institutions, this workshop then aims to enable and facilitate faculty and graduate students to reflect upon why a culture of peer support might be valuable in higher education, what it could look like, and how such a culture might be built and developed.
By the end of this workshop, you can expect to be able to:
- Articulate a shared vision of a culture of peer support
- Identify opportunities and challenges that influence the cultivation of a supportive and collaborative peer culture
- Propose practical steps for the development of a culture of support and collegiality for teaching excellence.
