Please give a short introduction of yourself.

My name is Ravi Prakash Joshi. I am from India. I am a Masters student with the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering. I did my bachelors in the field of Computer Science from IIITDM Jabalpur (India). I have work experience as a Senior Research Fellow at Robotics Lab in IIT Delhi (India).

What is your favorite thing about Kitakyushu city?

The unique features of Kitakyushu city is the cleanliness and peace. Apart from that, the friendly nature of the people in Japan makes the whole experience very special. I visited Kokura where I was extremely impressed with the castle, and it made me want to learn more about the rich heritage of Japan.

In what way has your impression of Kitakyushu cityor Japan changed since coming here?

Apart from leading the field of technology, Japan has a rich set of culture, which impressed me every day. Personally, I find the kindness and punctuality of Japanese people to be very remarkable. Japan suffers from many natural disasters, but the resilience of Japanese people has inspired me immensely. They work hard every day to make their country better and bounce back quickly from adversities.

What attracted you to choose Kyushu Institute of Technology as a place to study?

The research work of Prof. Tom Shibata fascinated me so much that I choose Kyushu Institute of Technology for higher study. I had a small discussion with him during his visit to India in 2015, during which he explained to me about his projects and Lab facilities, which really impressed me and I wanted to learn more from him.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

I have made some changes to my lifestyle and I also started learning Japanese language to adjust to the society here. I try to interact with my Japanese friends to understand the culture over here. This also helps me in improving my Japanese skills. Japanese people try to understand and help, even when they find difficulty in understanding English language.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?

Japan is a beautiful country and could pride itself as the world¡¯s top country in the field of robotics technology. It is a country that has led the world in the field of science and technology for the last several decades. Life in Japan is very exciting and intriguing. I love the food, culture and festivals celebrated in Japan. Staying in a foreign land has made me independent and responsible. I highly recommend young scholar to come to Japan to pursue their higher education.
