Please give a short introduction of yourself.

I am Pratiti, a doctoral student in Environmental health lab under department of environmental engineering in Kyoto University. I am from Kolkata and stayed in Varanasi and Kanpur for education. I always wanted to roam around the world and now suddenly I found like my dreams come true. I love different foods, culture, language and of course people. I tried to learn Japanese in first few months in Kyoto University. Though I`m not sure how much I learned and how much I could remember but I really found a lot of awesome friends around the world here. I travel whenever I get some times. And also take every opportunity to travel in the name of research.

What is your favorite thing about Kyoto?

The beauty and security to cherish the beauty. Life is so safe and easy here that you would feel like stay here for rest of your life. I found an awesome blend of tradition with modernization here what I love to explore.

In what way has your impression of Kyoto or Japan changed since coming here?

Japan is as beautiful I knew before coming here. Moreover now I found Japanese people super polite and friendly. I had an idea they are hardworking but now I know they are hard party goer and fun loving too.

What attracted you to choose Kyoto University as a place to study?

Kyoto University is one of the best in Asia and always grab its good and stable position in world rankings. However I was particularly impressed with my lab work that is very similar to my interest.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

I think Japan adjusted with me and all other international people in such a beautiful way that I never feel like I am adjusting here. Only Japanese language is a barrier in my research work as Japanese people are usually not very good in English but their effort to make me understand thinks motivates me always.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?

If you get the scholarship and an acceptance letter from university don`t think twice. Japan will welcome you as if you are the most precious visitor she ever had.
