What is your favorite thing about Sapporo City?

Sapporo is one of the most beautiful places to live and study in Japan. The city is not too crowded. It is not expensive either. I really like Sapporo's weather and food. Hokkaido's powder snow is frequently praised by skiers from around the world as being the "best quality snow". I prefer to live in a quite, stunningly beautiful place with good food, and Sapporo is such a place.

In what way has your impression of Sapporo City or Japan changed since coming here?

I used to worry about the winter in Sapporo before I came here. However, winter turned out to be very enjoyable! Moreover, after having visited Tokyo, Osaka, and other well known cities, I am happy to stay in Sapporo which is very beautiful. Having traveled a lot of countries, I will confidently say that Japanese people are the most polite in the world.

What attracted you to choose Hokkaido University as a place to study?

Hokkaido university is a national university. Sapporo is a beautiful place and is not as crowded as Tokyo, or Osaka. There is good research at Hokkaido University. Snowfall at Sapporo gives a unique opportunity to develop robots which can also work in extreme weather conditions. Food is very tasty here.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

I like Japanese culture. Japan is a nice and safe place to live. Since I am fluent in Japanese language, I find no problem in day-to-day life in Japan. I can concentrate on my research and find good career opportunities after graduation. Japanese culture is similar to my Indian culture in many aspects.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?

Japan is a nice place to do research if you can get scholarship. You can learn Japanese language with little dedication. There are only few Indian professionals who are good in Japanese along with their core-technical expertise. You will be working hard here, and the hard work will pay off. You will work in an amazing and unique work environment. Don't let the fear of Japanese language stop you from coming to Japan. There are many students who come here without any Japanese skills, and do well within a short time. There is a huge business between India and Japan and the demand for professionals who are competent in both the cultures is ever increasing.
