Dr. Taichiro Okazaki is a Professor in the Division of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Japan. He holds a B.E. and M.E. in Architecture and Architectural Engineering from Kyoto University. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 2004 from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to his appointment at Hokkaido University in January 2011, he was Researcher at the National Research Center for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention of Japan, and Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, USA. Dr. Okazaki has taught short classes on the behavior and design of steel structures at Dalian University of Technology, China and at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, the latter appointment was sponsored by the Global Initiative of Academic Networks, or GIAN program, of India. Dr. Okazaki¡¯s research interests include seismic design of steel structures, large-scale structural testing, and nonlinear modelling and analysis of structures subjected to seismic action. He is a member of Architectural Institute of Japan, Japan Society of Steel Construction, Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering, American Institute of Steel Construction, and American Society of Civil Engineers. Since 2021, he serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Earthquake Engineering. Currently, at Hokkaido University, Dr. Okazaki chairs the International Exchange Office of Engineering and the International Research Skills Program for Developing Sustainable Transportation Systems and Infrastructure, or STSI Program.
