The Go Global Gateway program organizes a series of lectures called “When I was 19” for students enrolled in the program. This event brings in people with a variety of international experiences to talk about what they thought at the age of 19 and careers after graduation from the university. For the first round of the academic year 2021, we invited Dr. Midori Sato* who is a lecturer at the College of Arts and Sciences, U Tokyo.

She shared various stories such as her first study-abroad experience in the United Kingdom, graduate studies at American and British universities, professional careers at UNICEF, her family life, and the current work at 春雨直播app. Dr. Sato described a whole life as a “project” and introduced “multi-stage life”, the idea of encouraging life-long learning and more flexibility in career development as well as family building.

After the talk given by Dr. Sato, participants actively discussed with each other in small groups and then came back to the plenary session in which they asked Dr. Sato various questions, including visions for future careers, her attitude towards difficulties, women’s life events, tips for climbing up a career ladder, and her international working experience. Dr. Sato generously answered all these questions and the participants gained a lot of inspiration from the interaction with her.

The Go Global Gateway program will organize a variety of events for students enrolled in the program. We look forward to your participation in our future events.
